For over 150 years, gold, silver, and uranium, among other resources, have been drilled, blasted and hauled from their hiding places in the Colorado high country. When the supplies were exhausted in one spot, the miners simply walked away. Some are still being worked, however, at least late at night when no one is around!

The Indian Peaks, a continuation of the mountainous landscape that begins in Rocky Mountain National Park, owe their dramatic sculpted form to the action of glaciers. The mountains contain a handful of remnant glaciers, considered to be the southernmost permanent glaciers in North America.
